Our candle company really started off as just a way for a married couple to bond and have a hobby together. We were really just looking for a way to spend time with each other in the midst of two busy work schedules, Soccer practice, T-Ball practice, and Boy Scouts.
In a very short amount of time friends were asking about our candles, and so turning our fun little hobby into a business we could become passionate about just seemed like a great undertaking. For months we discussed different types of waxes, wicks, jars, scents, costs, and pricing. We wanted to build a brand that we could be proud of, a philosophy we could stand proudly behind, and an experience for customers that was different then so many candle companies out there.
Finally, in 2010 we were ready to launch our business Flickerby Candles. Flickerby Candles name came from Michelle’s love of butterflies. We wanted to incorporate a butterfly into our name and logo, but how?. As it turned out our first company name concept was already taken. Our designer Christopher Uryga of Aedis Creative approached us with an idea. “A butterfly is sometimes playfully called a Flutterby. Candles flicker. Why don’t you name your company Flickerby Candles.”
